TOUR DES CANADIENS PASSARELLE MONTREAL, QC 2017 ANDREW KING + LEMAY
the proposed gateway is a simple infrastructure, which responds to the clean and dynamic lines of the deloitte tower and the bell centre. its portion above of the public domain creates an event above saint-antoine street west - a sculpture spanning a major urban axis downtown and a new architectural icon for montreal.
from the street, the central column acts as a focal point, while its slight curvature animates the progression of the pedestrian gateway. transparency and openness to the city offers a new perception on downtown, an understanding and a vision for the renewed urban context.
finally, the footbridge draws its inspiration from the city’s many iconic architectural examples of mass concrete buildings. at their time, these projects aimed to innovate both
formal and material expressions. the footbridge perpetuates this desire by proposing a design process and an innovative method of
manufacturing, giving way to striking and incontestably contemporary architecture.
